May 14: Boys Golf at State Meet

The GHS Varsity golf team ended the year with a 12th-place showing at the 3A state tournament in a field of 16 teams.  The Indians shot 335 and 326 for a two-day total of 661.  Freshman Zach McLain led the Indians with a 154 total for the two days, in a tie for 9th overall, placing him on the all-state team. Freshman Caleb Proveaux shot a 156 total, just missing all-state honors. Congratulations to Zach and Caleb on their excellent play at state and to the Gilbert team for a good season

 

May 6: Varsity Softball: Gilbert 7 Darlington 0

Last night the Lady Indians won the opening game of the Lower State finals with a 7 to 0 win over Darlington.  Lyndie Dorgan pitched a no hitter while picking up her 14th win of the season. Top hitters were: Jenna Williams  - 3 for 4; Gabby Keisler - 3 for 4 (2  home runs). The Lady Indians record stands at 20 and 10.  The defending AAA state champions, Hartsville, will visit Gilbert on Wednesday.  Game time is 6:00.

 

May 6: Boys Golf at Lower State Meet

The GHS Varsity golf team finished third in a field of 16 teams at lower state in Myrtle Beach on Monday.  The team shot an excellent round of 318 in very difficult conditions, allowing them to advance to the state tournament next Monday and Tuesday at Coastal Carolina University’s Hackler Course.  Caleb Proveaux led the Indians with a 77. Congratulations to the team on a great effort.

 

May 3: Varsity Softball: Gilbert 10 Georgetown 0

Last night, the Gilbert Lady Indians defeated Georgrtown by a score of 10 to 0 to win the District 5 championship.  Gabby Keisler was the winning pitcher. Top hitters were: Savannah Anderson - 2 for 3; Emily Jones - 2 for 3; Gibson Westfall - 2 for 3; Lyndie Dorgan - 3 for 3

 

Apr 29: Varsity Softball: Gilbert 6 Georgetown 3

Last night the Lady Indians won against Georgetown 6 to 3.  Lyndie Dorgan was the winning pitcher. Top hitters were: Kate Lee - 2 for 3; Emily Jones - 2 for 3; Lyndie Dorgan - 2 for 3 ( grand slam homerun). The Lady Indians are now 18 and 10 on the season.

 

Apr 26: Varsity Softball: Gilbert 8 Hilton Head 1

Last night the Lady Indians defeated Hilton Head Island in the first round of the play-offs by a score of 8 to 1.  Gabby Keisler was the winning pitcher.  Top hitters were: Jenna Williams - 2 for 4; Gabby Keisler - 2 for 3 ( 3 run homerun); Kate Lee - 2 for 3; Lyndie Dorgan - 2 for 3

 

Apr 24: Girls Track Region Champs-Boys 3rd

The GHS Track Teams competed in the Region Meet, with the Girls team winning the Region Championship and the Boys team finishing 3rd.

Apr 23: Boys Golf

The GHS Varsity golf team saved their best home score of the year for their final home match of the year, an exciting four-way contest, shooting an excellent 154 in a one stroke loss to Lexington.  Gilbert beat Saluda, who shot 156, and White Knoll, who shot 177.  Caleb Proveaux led the Indians with an excellent even-par 36.  Also notable was the fine two over par round of 38 shot by eighth-grader Jeremiah Kubilus. The Indians have region next Monday at Hidden Valley and Tuesday at home.  They close out the regular season with a 13-5 record.

 

Apr 23: Varsity Softball: Gilbert 5 Midland Valley 4

The Lady Indians earned the #1 seed in the District 5 play-offs last night with a 4 to 3 victory over Midland Valley.  The winning pitcher was Lyndie Dorgan. Top hitters were Jenna Williams - 3 for 4 with a double and a triple; Alicia Dorgan - 2 for 4 including the game winning RBI; Lyndie Dorgan - 2 for 3 with a triple. The Lady Indians will host Hilton Head in round one of the playoffs.  Game time and date will be announced.

 

Apr 22: Boys Golf

The GHS Varsity golf team beat Swansea and White Knoll yesterday in a 3-way match at Hidden Valley Country Club.  The Indians were led by Zach McLain, who shot an even-par round of 36. The team is now 11-4.

 

Apr 18: Varsity Softball: Gilbert 12 Strom Thurmond 2

Last night in softball the Lady Indians defeated Swansea by a score of 12 to 2.  Lyndie Dorgan was the winning pitcher.

Top hitters were: Savannah Anderson - 2 for 3; Jenna Williams 2 for 4; Kate Lee - 3 for 4; Lyndie Dorgan - 2 for 4. With the win Gilbert became co-champions of region 5AAA.  We will play Midland Valley Tuesday night at Strom Thurmond High to determine where we go in the play-offs.

 

Apr 18 Varsity Baseball: Gilbert 6 Swansea 3

The Varsity Baseball Team beat Swansea 6-3. Mitch Spires was the winning pitcher. Ryan Knowles, Jared Williams, and Trevor Black had 2 hits each for the Indians. Gilbert finishes the regular season with an overall record of 17-5 and 7-3 in the region , good enough for 2nd place.

 

Apr 17: Boys Golf

The GHS varsity golf team participated in the Bengal Invitational golf tournament at Columbia Country Club on Monday and Tuesday, shooting a 645 two-day score. Though the team did not finish in the top 10,  freshman Zach McLain shot a stellar two under par for 36 holes, making the all-tournament team. Caleb Proveaux also played very well, shooting four over for the tournament. Congratulations to these two golfers on a fine performance.

 

Apr 15 Varsity Baseball: Gilbert 9 Strom Thurmond 0

The Varsity Baseball Team beat Strom Thurmond 9-0. Drew Moyer was the winning pitcher. Zach Thier hit 2 HR's and drove in 6 runs. Jared Williams added 3 hits. The baseball team is now 16-5 and 6-3 in the region.

 

Apr 15: Varsity Softball: Gilbert 11 Strom Thurmond 0

Last night the Lady Indians defeated Strom Thurmond by the score of 11 to 0.  Gabby Keisler pitched a perfect game. Top hitters were: Savannah Anderson - 2 for 4 with a triple; Gabby Keisler - 2 for 4 with a homerun; Kate Lee - 2 for 2. Gilbert's record is now 13 wins and 10 losses , 7 and 2 in region play.

 

Apr 12 Varsity Baseball: Gilbert 3 Airport 2

The Varsity Baseball Team beat beat Airport 3-2 in 8 innings. Trever Frederickson was the winning pitcher. The baseball team is now 15-5 and 5-3 in the region.

 

Apr 12: Varsity Softball: Gilbert 5 Airport 3

Last night Gilbert defeated Airport in softball 5-3.  Freshman Tina Sanders hit a 2-run homerun in the bottom of the 7th inning to secure the victory.  Lyndie Dorgan was the winning pitcher.Emily Jones had 2 hits in 3 at-bat. The Lady Indians' record is 12 wins against 10 losses-6 and 2 in the region.

 

Mar 27: Boys Golf

The GHS varsity golf team won a 3-way match at home yesterday, scoring 159 to BC’s 180 and White Knoll’s 185. Joseph Hardee, the team’s short-game wizard, shot an even-par 36 to lead the Indians. Our record now stands at 6-3.

 

Mar 25: Boys Golf

The GHS Varsity and JV teams both won 3-way matches at Ponderosa Country Club Monday. The varsity team shot a 175 to Mid-Carolina’s 180 and Batesburg-Leesville’s 203.  Caleb Proveaux shot a 38 to lead the Indians.  The Varsity improves its record to 4 and 3. The JV team shot 193 to win over both opponents, with Dylan Robbins and Rob Curry both shooting 46 to lead the team. The JV record is now 4-1-1.

 

Mar 22 Varsity Baseball: Gilbert 3 Strom Thurmond 2

The Varsity Baseball Team beat Strom Thurmond 3-2 in 10 innings. Mitch Spires (1-0) was the winning pitcher. Ryan Knowles had the game winning hit for the Indians. The baseball team is now 8-4 and 2-2 in the region.

 

Mar 19: Boys Tennis: Gilbert 4 Airport 2

Gilbert defeated Batesburg-Lleesville 7-0.  Singles winners were: Christian Duncan, Joseph Espinoza, Grant Babin, Drew Harmon, and Tyler Craps.  Doubles winners were: Duncan and Espinoza,  Ryan Busby and Taylor Dorward. The Indians are 5-1

 

Mar 18: Boys Tennis: Gilbert 7 Columbia 0

Gilbert defeated Columbia HS 7-0. Singles winners were: Christian Duncan, Joseph Espinoza, Grant Babin, Drew Harmon, and Taylor Dorward. Doubles winners were: Tyler Craps and Ryan Busby. Indians are 4-1

 

Mar 14: Boys Tennis: Gilbert 4 Airport 2

Gilbert defeated region foe Airport 4-2. Singles winners were: Joseph Espionosa, Grant Babin, Drew Harmon. Doubles winners were: Tyler Craps and Ryan Busby. The Indians are now 3-1

 

Mar 17: Boys Golf

The GHS Varsity golf team traveled to Myrtle Beach this weekend for the Blue Jacket tournament, taking four freshmen and an eighth-grader,  and came home with the second place trophy, narrowly losing to Myrtle Beach High by a mere 2 shots.  The team performed admirably in very demanding conditions on Saturday, playing in 40 mile per hour winds, then rallied to make up 13 shots on the leader on Sunday. Two members of our team had outstanding performances. Freshman Zach McLain shot a tournament low 3-under par 69 on Sunday, followed closely by Caleb Proveaux’s even-par 72.  Zach finished first overall in a strong field of over 80 players with a two-day total of 149 and Caleb was second with a 150 total for the two days. Both players eagled the finishing hole on Sunday to cap a superb weekend of play. Freshman Joseph Hardee shot a solid 82 on Sunday, and eighth-grader Jeremiah Kubilus also contributed to the team’s second-place finish.  Congratulations to the Indian Golfers on a fine effort.

 

Mar 14: Boys Golf

The GHS varsity golf team played well but went 0 for 3 in a 4-way match yesterday at home, falling to 3 of the top teams in the state.  The scores were: Gilbert 160, Lexington 153, South Aiken 150, and AC Flora 149.  Zach McLain shot an excellent even-par 36 to lead the Indians. Our match record now stands at 2 and 3. The team travels to North Myrtle Beach this weekend to play in the Blue Jacket tournament.

 

Mar 13: Varsity Softball: Gilbert 10 Brookland-Cayce 0

Last night Gilbert defeated Brookland Cayce in softball 10 to 0 in 5 innings. Top hitters were:

Alicia Dorgan-2 for 3, Savannah Anderson-3 for 3 with a triple. Winning pitcher was Lyndie Dorgan. Her record is 2 wins and no losses. Gilbert's record is 3 wins and 1 loss.

 

Mar 11: Boys Tennis: Gilbert 5 Saluda 2

Gilbert defeated Saluda 5-2. Singles Winners were: Christian Duncan, Joseph Espinosa, Grant Babin, and Drew Harmon. Doubles winners were: Duncan and Espinosa. Gilbert is 2-1, and will host Airport on Thursday for its first region match.

 

Mar 11: Boys Golf

The GHS boys golf team downed the White Knoll Timberwolves yesterday in both varsity and JV matches at Indian River.  The varsity squad won by a score of 151 to 179.  Caleb Proveaux led the Indians with a 36. The JV team won 187 to 217.  They were led by Rob Curry, who shot a 45. Our record on the year is now 2-0 for both varsity and JV.

 

Mar 11 Varsity Baseball: Gilbert 11 Midland Valley 0

The Varsity Baseball Team beat Midland Valley 11-0. Drew Moyer (2-1) was the winning pitcher. Jared Williams, Mitch Spires, Ryan Knowles, and Cameron Twitty had 2 hits each for the Indians. The baseball team is now 6-2 and 1-0 in the region.

 

Mar 7: Varsity Softball: Gilbert 18 Mid-Carolina 3

Last night the Lady Indians defeated Mid-Carolina in softball 18-3.  The winning pitcher was Gabby Keisler.  Her record is 1 and 0. Top hitters were: Savannah Anderson - 4 for 5 including 3 doubles; Kate Lee - 3 for 5 with 1 double; Sara Walters - 2 for 4 with 1 double; Alicia Dorgan - 2 for 4; Gibson Westfall - 2 for 5 with 1 double. The softball team is now 2-0.

 

Mar 7 Varsity Baseball: South Aiken 4 Gilbert 0

The Varsity Baseball Team lost to South Aiken 4-0. Drew Moyer (1-1) was the losing pitcher. Jared Williams had 2 hits for the Indians. The baseball team is now 3-2.

 

Mar 7: Boys Golf

The GHS Varsity and JV golf teams both won their first home match of the year yesterday against Batesburg-Leesville.  The varsity won by a score of 164 to 199, and the JV’s won 154 to 215, scoring 3 players. The varsity  had 3 low scorers:  Zach McLain, Caleb Proveaux, and Joseph Hardee all shot 40. The JV squad’s low scorer was River Rauton, who shot 48.

 

Mar 6: Varsity Softball: Gilbert 2 B-L 1

The Lady Indians opened the 2013 softball season last night with a 2 to 1 victory over B-L.  The winning pitcher was Lyndie Dorgan. Top hitters for Gilbert were: Savannah Anderson - 1 for 3; Kate Lee - 1 for 3; Alicia Dorgan - 2 for 2

 

Mar 6: Boys Golf

The GHS boys varsity golf team finished 4th in the Lexington County Tee-Off tournament yesterday at Charwood Country Club.  Zach McLain shot a fine 78 in very difficult conditions and  finished tied for first place in regulation.  He then went to the third hole of sudden death before missing a long putt to finish second.  Congratulations to Zach and to the entire team.

 

Mar 4 Varsity Baseball: Gilbert wins Comporium Tournament

The Varsity Baseball Team went 3-1 to win the Comporium Preseason Baseball Tournament. Gilbert beat Summerville 6-0 on Thursday, lost to Byrnes 7-6 on Friday, beat JL Mann 6-0 on Saturday, and beat South Aiken in the championship game on Sunday 3-2. Drew Moyer, Jon Myles Newman, and Seth Kuntz picked up victories on the mound for the Indians. Dalton George recorded a save in the championship game. Mitch Spires lead the Indians with 4 hits on the weekend.
