Baseball State Championship Game 2: Gilbert 3 Hanahan 2
The
Varsity Baseball team defeated Hanahan 3-2 in Game 2 of the
State Championship Series to win the State AA Championship. Mike
Morrison (8-0) was the winning pitcher.
Connor Owings recorded his 7th save of the season. Collins Shirley had 2
hits including a grand slam HR to lead the Indians. Owings added a 2-run
HR. The team is now 29-2 and will host Hanahan in Game 2 the
State Championship Series Wednesday at Gilbert at 6:30.
May 15-Boys Soccer
Upper State Championship: Indian Land 3 Gilbert 2 (OT)
The
Boys Soccer Team lost to Indian Land 3-2 in overtime Tuesday night. Jose
Cedillo and Gustavo De Los Reyes scored goals for the Indians. The Boys
Soccer Team finishes the season as the Upper State Runner-Up and Region
Champions.
May 15-Golf Update
The Gilbert Boys Varsity golf team
finished 8th in a field of 16 at the state AA golf tournament held this
week at Indian River in West Columbia. The team shot 315-341 for a 656
total. 8th grader Zach McLain led the Indians with rounds of 76 and 79
for a 155 total, with senior Dalton Waters finishing one stroke back at
156, shooting rounds of 74 and 82. This ends a very successful year
for the team, which went 20 and 2 in the regular season and won the
region 3-AA championship. Congratulations to the team on a great
season.

The
Varsity Baseball team defeated Hanahan 8-3 in Game 1 of the
State Championship Series. Austin LaBounty (8-0) was the winning pitcher.

The GHS boys golf team is competing in the
State AA Golf toufnament at Indian River. After the 1st day of
competition, Gilbert is in 4th place. The tournament finishes on
Tuesday.

Baseball Upper State Championship: Gilbert 7 Palmetto 0
The
Varsity Baseball team defeated Palmetto 7-0 in the Upper
State Championship. Drew Moyer (5-1) was the winning pitcher. Jason
Smith had 3 hits to lead the Indians. The team is now 28-2 and will play
Hanahan in the
State Championship Series.
May 7-Golf Update
The GHS boys golf team won the Region 3-AA
Championship, competing on Monday at Pineridge County Club in Edgefield
and Tuesday at the Ponderosa Country Club. The team shot a school-record
625 for the two-day tournament. This win allows the team to move on to
the state tournament next week at Indian River in West Columbia. Making
the all-region team were: Zach McLain, Dalton Waters, Avery Bruner, and
Joseph Hardee. Coach Hiott was voted region coach of the year.

Softball Upper State Playoffs: Gilbert 3 Crescent 1
The
Varsity Softball team beat Crescent 3-1 in round 2 of the Upper State
Playoffs. The Indians are now 25-4 and will host the Upper State
Championship Friday at Gilbert at 5:00.

Baseball Upper State Playoffs: Gilbert 4 Palmetto 2
The
Varsity Baseball team defeated Palmetto 4-2 in round 2 of the Upper
State Playoffs. Mike Morrison (7-0) was the winning pitcher. Connor
Owings recorded the save (5). Morrison, Owings, Jason Smith, and Mitch
Spires had 2 hits each. The team is now 27-2 and will host the Upper
State Championship Friday at Gilbert at 5:00.
May 7-Girls Soccer
State Playoffs: Gilbert 5 Greenville Tech 2
The
Girls Soccer Team beat Greenville Tech 5-2 in the 1st round of the
playoffs. Kayla Moses scored 2 goals, Caitlyn Taylor scored 2 goals, and
Cydney Taylor scored 1 goal. The soccer team is now 15-5-1.
May 7-Golf Update
The GHS boys golf team competed at the
Region 3-AA tournament on Monday at Pineridge County Club in Edgefield.
Gilbert holds a 10-stroke over Strom Thurmond heading into day 2. The
team scores were: Gilbert 312, Strom Thurmond 322, Batesburg-Leesville
386, Keenan 455. Top scorers were: Avery Bruner (G) 72, Zach McLain (G)
76, Joseph Hardee (G) 81, Dalton Waters (G) 83. They golf team continues
the region meet today.

Baseball Upper State Playoffs: Gilbert 12 Pendleton 6
The
Varsity Baseball team defeated Pendleton 12-6 in round 1 of the Upper
State Playoffs. Vic Burkett (1-0) was the winning pitcher. Connor Owings
recorded the save. Owings had 2 hits and a HR. Mike Morrison has 3 hits.
Mitch Spires and Taylor Leaphart had 2 hits each. The team is now 26-2
and host Palmetto Monday at 6:30.

Softball Upper State Playoffs: Gilbert 2 Palmetto 1
The
Varsity Softball team beat Palmetto 2-1 in round 1 of the Upper State
Playoffs. The Indians are now 24-4 and host Cresent Monday.
May 3-Tennis Update
The Gilbert Tennis team had 5 players
selected to the All-Region team:
Dennis Crepes, Bradley Albus, Drew Harmon, Trent Blackwell, and Joseph
Espinoza. Also, Coach Bill Alman was selected Region Coach of the Year
and Dennis Crepes was Region Player of the Year.
May 3-Tennis Update
Gilbert defeated Emerald 4-2 in the first
round of the state playoffs. Gilbert won four tie breakers to win.
Winners were: Dennis Crepes, Drew Harmon, Joseph Espinosa and Doubles :
Alex derrick and Cole Lamons. Gilbert will play number 1 Christ Church
on Tuesday in Greenville. The Indians are 15-2.

Baseball District 3 Championship: Gilbert 3 Mid-Carolina 2 (8 innings)
The
Varsity Baseball team defeated Mid-Carolina 3-2 in the District 3
Championship. Blake Shirley (3-0) was the winning
pitcher and had the game-winning hit in the 8th inning. Jared Williams
had 3 hits for the Indians. Taylor Leaphart added 2 hits. The team is now
25-2 and travels to Pendleton for game 1 of the Upper State Playoffs
Saturday at 3:00.
May 2-Varsity
Softball Playoffs: Gilbert 6 Emerald 0
The
Varsity Softball team beat Emerald 6-0 in the District 3 Championship. Lyndie
Dorgan was the winning pitcher. Kaitlyn Sheppard was 2-3 with a HR.
The Indians are now 23-4 and travel to Palmetto for Game 1 of the Upper
State Playoffs.
April 26-Tennis Update
Gilbert defeated Airport 5-2. Singles
winners were: Bradley Albus, Drew Harmon, Trent Blackwell, Joseph
Espinoza. Doubles winners were: Cole Lamons and Alex Derrick. Gilbert
finishes the year 14-2 and will be the # 4 seed in the upper state
playing Emerald H.S at home on Thursday.
April 30- B-C 4 Gilbert 2
Gilbert was defeated by Brookland-Cayce
4-2. Winners were: Dennis Crepes and Joseph Espinoza. The team is now
13-2.
April 28-Varsity
Baseball Playoffs: Gilbert 11 Mid-Carolina 1
The
Varsity Baseball team defeated Mid-Carolina 11-1 in the 2nd round of the
District 3 Playoffs. Mike Morrison (6-0) was the winning
pitcher, striking out 14. Morrison had 2 hits including a HR. Jared Williams had 2 hits
also. The team is now
24-2 and hosts either Liberty or Mid-Carolina Wednesday at 5:00 in the 2nd round of the
District 3 playoffs.
April 27-Varsity
Softball Playoffs: Gilbert 12 Emerald 0
The
Varsity Softball team beat Emerald 12-0. Gabby Keisler (7-3) was the
winning pitcher. Jenna Williams, Kathryn Cochcroft, Kelli Shealy,
Savannah Anderson, Caitlyn Sheppard had 2 hits each. Keisler added a HR.
The team will host the District 3 championship Wednesday at 5:30.

Softball Playoffs: Gilbert 12 Central 9
The
Varsity Softball team defeated
Central 12-9 in the 1st round the District 3 Playoffs. Lyndie Dorgan
(12-0) was the winning pitcher. Gibson Westfall had 3 hits for the
Indians. Jenna Williams, Nikki Hopkins, Gabby Keisler, Caitly Sheppard,
and Kelli Shealy had 2 hits each. Westfall, Keisler, and Sheppard hit
HRs. The team is now 21-4 and hosts Emerald Friday at 6:00 in the 2nd
round of the District 3 playoffs.

The
Varsity Baseball team defeated Cheraw 10-0 in the 1st round of the
District 3 Playoffs. Austin LaBounty (7-0) was the winning
pitcher. Connor Owings and Jared Williams had 2 hits each. The team is now
23-2 and hosts Mid-Carolina Saturday at 1:00 in the 2nd round of the
District 3 playoffs.
